I fly... You fly?

I will admit I was booked in to skydive when I lived in Sydney - On a whim and incredibly out of character I was asked to accompany a friend jumping out of a plane and I said YES!
LUCKY for me... There was an electrical storm when I arrived at base camp and the sky dive was called off! AMEN....

What is the point of the story you ask?... Well I guess it's to share with you that I am petrified of extreme adventure activities where I don't have control - so Bungee Jumping, Base Jumping, Heli Skiing and Wingsuit Flying don't fall in my top list of things to do... I can't even go on rollercoasters without feeling like I may die!

So... How would I fare when it came to iFly... What is iFly - well its sky diving without any of the fear... Hmmm... I was still incredibly nervous!

Basically the way iFly works is that you free fall into a wind tunnel that is 56.5 ft tall - the wind blows at around 150 kilometers an hour and so you experience the feeling you would of floating on the wind but without the GUT dropping feeling that you are falling to the earth.

Lets just say... I LOVED it! For some reason in all my photos are was grinning directly at the camera every time! Ha ha... always camera ready even when mid air! You should give it a try!

Film Premier Of New Years Eve

Lucky for moi... I was invited to the Film Premier of New Year's Eve at Vivo City.

I was incredibly excited to see this film - I am a huge sucker for a romantic comedy and I was anticipating to shed a couple of tears.

New Year's Eve brings together a star studded cast from Aston Kutcher, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer and MANY more whom all share stories based around the stroke of midnight and the coming of the new year.

The film is directed by Garry Marshall (known for Pretty Woman) the same team that last year brought us Valentines Day.

Look... the film isn't about learning the meaning of life, and wont make you look too deeply at the world around you but for some entertainment and some sweet moments in the film this will tickle your fancy.

I did love the message in the film - New Year's Eve is all about new beginnings, forgiving and having an open heart to the year ahead.

Pandora Rocks!

I had a very Rock and Roll evening a couple of weeks ago at the launch of Pandora Nostalgic Rock Autumn/ Winter Collection at their flag ship Pandora store at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore.

The new collection included the new layered necklaces which have numerous chains at different lengths in silver and oxidized for a different finish and of course customized through added jewels. I loved them! And another of my favourites were the zodiac charms.

The guest of honor was Mr Ole Lisborg the Danish Ambassador to Singapore who was charming. It was a great evening and I am a huge fan of the new collection.

What an absolutely WILD evening (evening Singapore time that is)... for Football results.

Last night saw long standing records broken and teams from the bottom of the Premier League Table beating TOP contenders for the Premiership this year. It was WILD.

A HUGE congratulations (of course) to the Gunners! Also to Man City... who... well.. THRASHED Manchester United... and lets not forget QPR! Chelsea ohhh dear Chelsea 2 red cards was really not the best tactic or move but allowed the promoted team QPR to fly up the table to 10th position. FANTASTIC. I am such a sucker for a little controversy!

A couple of shots from WORK!!! I'm on set at 8am... half asleep mainly from staying up late watching the game that was on the night before!

Open Door Policy

Yes... Yes... we all know I am an absolute SUCKER for trying new restaurants! I get super excited about trendy little hole in the wall places that open and am looking to investigate the menu.

ODP - Known as Open Door Policy is a new arrival on the scene in Tiong Bahru which is slowly becoming the neighbourhood where all the cool kids hang. A smattering of trendy cafe's have opened in this area creating a new reason to explore and be 'seen' in this part of Singapore.

Tucked away in Yong Siak street between old walk ups and corner food stalls ODP brings a little world of wonder, excitement and shabby chic to the neigbourhood. The chef is the Tippling Club's Ryan Clift who's take on food is great fresh thoughtfully prepared food that won't burn a hole in your pocket.

It is definitely a 'happening' place - by the time I arrived for my meal the restaurant was nearly full. I have to say it was pretty noisy and light inside so not necessarily a place for an intimate romantic meal but definitely a great place with an interesting interior and casual feel.

I tried the flamed tuna carpaccio with radish and yuzu salad which I thought was very clean and well presented but didn't rock my world the halloumi Cheese with olives white anchovies and crusty bread which I LOVED and for a main the 48 hour cooked braised beef cheek with moochi potatoes and carrot puree and the confit duck leg on a bed of lentils with sage and smoked bacon.

The Duck confit for me was STUNNING. Absolutely delicious.... and lets not forget desert... the chocolate and pistachio souffle with creme anglaise! Super light and super YUM! I could have eaten another one.

ODP does something a little different - it brings great food into the neighbourhood giving the diner a chance to experience something casual and different whilst eating great food and exploring a part of Singapore they may never have ventured before.

Bro's night out... and girls (of course!)

It was the bigest match of the weekend! The head to head battle between Manchester United and Liverpool and I was hanging out with the Bro's and the chickies watching it LIVE!

Look as most of you know I am not a supporter of either of these teams (I do support Arsenal - please don't hold that against me!) but I was looking forward to the LIVE screening of this game in the Coliseum @ Resorts World Sentosa! What is more exciting then screaming fans, big screens, lots of football games Tiger Beers and the game in 3D.

It was a balmy night at Resorts World Sentosa... a lot of sweat was shed indeed but I had a fantastic evening meeting lots of Manchester United and Liverpool fans and judging the beer drinking games.

Did someone say Shabu Shabu? (Swish, Swish...) My amazing Japanese Experience @ Eno_Oka bliss in the heart of Singapore.

I am an absolute fan of Japanese cuisine - I would say I consume it easily twice a week.
So when I had the opportunity to try one of Singapore's hidden gems and the apparent 'PLACE' for unforgettable Pork Shabu Shabu that would have me begging for more I couldn't turn the offer down.

Eno_Oka is the Japanese restaurant that my taste buds would be touring. With a super central location @ 56 Cairnhill Road in a quaint converted shop house a stones throw from Orchard Road I was ready to experience Japanese food like never before.

My tour guide for the day was Kenny - the head chef and owner of Eno_Oka - having lived and worked in Japan for 11 years working in a Japanese restaurant for 5 and opening his own Japanese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur affirmed to me that I was in safe hands.

I felt pretty lucky to be honest... I have NEVER tried Sukiyaki before - Sukiyaki is a beef dish of Wagyu Beef and vegetables (long cabbage, leeks, tofu, enoki mushrooms, rice noodles and red carrots that are simmered in a hot pot with a sauce of Mirin, Sake, Sugar, Shoyu and Salt.

Here I am with Kenny getting a lesson on how to perfect the cooking process of the Wagyu Beef and vegetables - this was utterly DELICIOUS - once the meat is cooked you dip it into a raw egg that I whisked - yes I know this sounds like a bizarre combination: raw egg + cooked wagyu beef... but trust me, it was delicious. Once the meat and vegetables are finishing you can add Udon noodles into the broth for a fantastic tasting noodle dish.

To accompany my meal I was spoilt with Tempura Prawns and Vegetable Tempura...

I also had a very fresh and tasty sashimi plate...

The sashimi was lush I was treated to a spread of Salmon, Tuna, Prawn, Fish Roe, Yellow Tail, Sword Fish and Squid!! Spoilt :)

And a Wafu salad - which was fresh cold tofu on a bed of lettuce and seaweed.

Last but not least I tried a Japanese speciality and the speciality dish I had been hearing all about from Eno_Oka... Drum roll please: Yes... it's the Pork Bone Shabu Shabu.

For those of you who are unfamiliar Shabu Shabu is Japanese hot pot. Thinly sliced meat and vegetables are cooked in a hot pot by you at your table - ( I had Kenny guiding me all the way... AMEN!)

We tried the Pork Shabu Shabu - which is 3 different cuts of the pork: collar, loin and belly thinly sliced. These slices are then dipped into the hot pot which is simmering in the middle of the table in a soup of pork broth called Tonkotsu. Now this Tonkotsu is pretty special. It is made by simmering pork bones in hot water for 8 to 10 hours! All I can say is YUM!

The meat is cooked by 'swishing' it in the pork broth 'swish' 'swish' OR 'shabu' 'shabu'- similar in fashion to the way one would make strokes with a paint brush. Once it is cooked it is then dipped into a sauce which you can choose and customise by adding coriander and a spiced radish (for those who like a bit of heat). The three sauces that accompany this dish are absolutely delicious - there was a peanut and sesame sauce, a citrus vinegar sauce and sesame sauce. All I can say is that Pork Shabu Shabu dipped in these sauces... well... taste bud explosion!

I have to say the Shabu Shabu was one of the most delicious meals I have EVER had at a Japanese restaurant before. I always chose safe and went for the sashimi, rolls or tempura dishes but I am not educated on how mouth watering Shabe Shabu and Sukiyaki is - I know that this is now on the top of my list of things to order.

The Sukiyaki is a great dish that can be paired well with a red wine and the Shabu Shabu with sake or beer all served at Eno_Oka

I had a memorable and delicious meal at Eno_Oka and will definitely be coming back to share a Shabu Shabu or Sukiyaki with friends. The busier evenings from Friday across the weekend and for a relaxing meal Kenny suggested I pop in from Monday to Thursday - they are also open for lunch daily.

Today I took a little piece of Japan with me as I left Eno_Oka the food was fresh, beautifully prepared with simple pairings of flavours. The Wagyu Beef utterly delicious and I have never experience Pork like that before. This place gets my thumbs up and will be seeing me again.... rather soon I think.

Food Glorious Food...

I am an absolute sucker for GREAT food, reading food blogs and getting top notch hints for the best places to grab good grub and of course trying out new places.

On my recent trip to Kuala Lumpur for work I took myself on a culinary journey.... Why not I say :)

Some of the highlights: Magnificent Fish and Chips @ 28 Changkat Bukit Bintang... yes there are healthy options and home style pub food which I had been craving - but these guys do a killer battered fish and chip option.

Ben's which had the most to DIE for crab meat pasta and dessert and Twenty One - which served stunning mains! I also checked out a brand new restaurant/bar and art gallery called Warehouse that had only been open for 1 day! Fab interior and great champagne cocktails!

A little NYC... in Singapore.

I L.O.V.E food... and when a couple of my friends suggested that I check out the new hot arrival in Singapore: Luke's Oyster Bar and Chop House I couldn't wait.

Luke's is very chic and once I entered it's doors I felt like I had been transported to New York. It reminded me of somewhere you would power lunch, the girls would meet for a sophisticated dinner or you would take a significant other on a romantic evening.

The Chef Travis Masiero had previously worked at Wine Garage and Spruce (which I love) so I was excited to join in the hype and try some of his new creations.

Home-baked corn bread was served as a started and was absolutely DELISH... It was warm... served with creamed butter and melted in my mouth! WOW is all I can say.

Lamb Chops for my main were SO delicious!

Tuna Tartar was absolutely delicious... I could eat this bad boy for lunch every day!

Lamb Chops for main course! Recommend this dish - it was DEVINE!

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Luke's - it was delish. A great new arrival in Singapore, tasty food , fantastic service and a great ambiance.

In the Jungle the Mighty Jungle...

This week I went JUNGLE...

It was the final week on my AXN E-buzz shoot and our location for the week was Borneo! Now lets say after having spent weeks strutting the streets of Kuala Lumpur, discovering Malacca, Penang and Ipoh and swimming in the stunning waters of Redang and Langkawi I was feeling like this week on shoot would be the most challenging. I have to admit the week before I had been a little spoilt! Living it up in Redang and Langkawi was paradise and this week the 5 star resorts and white sand was going to be replaced with thick jungle, humidity and lots of insects!

This week I hiked through the Kota Kinabulu nature reserve, watched Orangutans in their natural habitat, immersed myself in the culture and customs of the Mari Mari and Iban tribes, rode in Long boats... and... had a frightening experience and was rushed to the medical clinic after being stung by a bee whilst mid shoot in the Caves in Mulu Mulu National Park. NOT FUN. Overall it was a fantastic experience and with the medical emergencies, numerous flights and stunning locations thrown in I really did have an adventure.

P.A.R.A.D.I.S.E

Just back from Malaysia Truly Asia the third leg of the Malaysia documentary AXN shoot... and this leg was LUSH!

I was in paradise... Redang and Langkawi and it was such a great way to explore these 2 island locations.

Redang had the most beautiful crystal clear oceans and marine life... and Langkawi... well I have to say that staying at the 4 Seasons was like staying in HEAVEN. It was stunning - infinity pools, lush spa's, amazing food and the staff were so warm and genuine I HAVE to go back.

Brunching is the New Black.

This has to be one of my fave spots in Singapore... Fantastic food, ALWAYS great service a menu that I love and a warm yet casual environment that makes you want to come back.

Artichoke cafe located at 161 Middle Road Singapore and is casual dining at it's best... and you get a little surprise in a brown paper bag when you leave... I'll leave you to discover what that is :)

Here is me and my fav: The Grilled Haloumi, Buttered Mushrooms and Avocado on Toasted Bread. DELISH!

It's weekend brunch at it's best... the food at Artichoke has a Moroccan influence which really tweaks the usual brunch options and leaves a menu rich in flavour. I have to say I personally get sick of just 2 eggs for brunch and Artichoke really mixes it up.

The winners on the menu are the baked eggs which are served with Moroccan Meat Balls.... and... if you're game then you should try (share please!) the 'Atomic Bomb' which is a WHOPPING 4 hash brown Club Sandwich - with lamb sausages, bacon chop, mushrooms, fried eggs, maple syrup annnndddd and yes there is an and cheddar cheese sauce! Phew... I'm exhausted even listing the main components of the dish. Lets just say it's HUGE...

Brunch is served from 11.30 am - 2.45 pm on the weekend (rather perfect hours if you ask me...) and Artichoke is also open for dinner - the dinner menu looks really great (I have heard is delish) and changes every month which is great for the regulars.

I love the relaxed atmosphere of this place - the staff are always really friendly... and manager always up for a chat when i pop in - adding a charm and personal touch that sometimes get lost at popular brunch places in Singapore.... So where will you be brunching? Until next time.

Journey into Malaysia - Part 2!

Malaysia... you are stealing my heart a little more each time.. Thank you!

I am back in Singapore now after an absolutely whirl wind shooting schedule for the second part of 'Hot-Spot Malaysia' special I am shooting for AXN.

My journey took me back to the capital Kuala Lumpur for 2 days to shoot art galleries, Botanical Gardens and Forests... it is here that myself and the crew started singing the LMFAO song 'Everyday I'm Shuffling' and made it the theme tune for the first part of our shoot - this was because on shoot in the forest we were SURROUNDED by hundreds of mosquitoes and it was the shuffle dance move that seemed to save us... Well that's what we think anyway.

We moved from KL onwards to visit the Batu Caves - a sacred Hindi site locate 13 kilometers out of KL. Then it was on with the shoot to Putrajaya the Eco-friendly city and The Elephant Sanctuary!!! YES I GOT TO RIDE AN ELEPHANT! How was it? I felt like I was sitting on a wooden bench. Riding an Elephant bare back was a little tough on the bottom but the first time in my life I have ever been so close to an Elephant - an experience I will never forget.

STUNNING CREATURES

We moved on from KL to Pangkor Island... a journey that took 4 hours of traveling by road - so lots of i-pod shuffle time... and then from the land a 30 minute ferry journey. Pangkor Island is a tropical and luxurious paradise - 90% of the island is forest.... and the monkey here are SO smart I was told by the hotel staff that some of them stole visitors underwear, put them on and jumped into the pool!!! Seriously!!!

Then it was the Banjaran Thermal Hot Springs Retreat... with crystal caves, thermal baths sitting at 41 degrees, yoga classes, massages, GREAT food and a stunning setting... FYI: The theme song the crew and I sung over the 2 days we were shooting here was the theme tune to Jurassic Park!

I had a fantastic time time exploring the luxurious side of KL... it's art galleries and shopping spots the resorts, Eco-tourism spots and having a fantastic time with the crew who kept me laughing with the theme songs we came up with over each leg of the journey.

Well... that's it for now... I am back in Malaysia in just under 2 weeks from round 3 of our shoot!

Tiger Goals on Sunday

I have to say I am SO excited about working on the second season of Tiger Goals on Sunday that airs EVERY Sunday at 11am on Singtel mio Stadium Channel 102 (lock that into memory people).

I have become addicted to watching football - which has meant late nights and following my boys the Gunners (of course!).

My fellow host Dom Lau is an absolute pleasure to work with and P.J Roberts our soccer expert rocks!

Yes... we do have a LOT of fun on Sunday mornings - I feel absolutely blessed that I get to wake up and head into work on a live television show with a great team!

How did you spend your National Day?

Happy National Day Singapore! It is a very Happy Birthday indeed a day where Singapore celebrates it's independence from Malaysia - this year was it's 46th Birthday marked by a parade, a firework display an address fro the Prime Minister of Singapore... and a day marked as a public holiday. I took this day to explore the city a little taking in the sites, ICE CREAM and great food of Haji Lane.

Haji Lane is located within Arab Street Singapore and is a district rich in Islamic history and culture. The streets are lined with cute boutiques - selling great one off fashion accessories, clothing and even bespoke bikes! And the food here is delish!

LUNCH was amazing... Turkish food! WOW!
I ate at Alaturka Turkish Restaurant the Hommus was rich in flavour, fresh and utterly delicious and I have a huge spot for falafel's so this place hit the spot.

You MUST visit this restaurant for amazing Turkish cuisine.

Japanese Dining!

I absolutely LOVE Japanese food - I am a member at Sushi Tei! Seriously the best part about joining Sushi Tei is that during your Birthday month you get 20% off your bill! And yes... my bills are BIG!

However I visited a new little Japanese restaurant last night that I have been hearing a lot about in Singapore lately.

Sui Japanese Dining in Tanjong Pagar.

The ambience wasn't the best at Sui and would be my only criticism - but the food and the service was really great.

The owner really looked after me, he was great with dish suggestions and really added to making you feel that you were in an authentic Japanese home style restaurant.
I received a complimentary starter - a Tofu dish that was to die for... and free dessert!
FRESH HOME MADE CREAM PUFFS! How could I say no?

The image is a little dark - but this crab roll was so fresh and full of flavour it really beats any Japanese food or experience you get from the large chain restaurants.

I will be visiting Sui Japanese dining again...

Tales My Mother Told Me...

Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to travel to Myanmar (Burma). This country has filled my thoughts, my imagination and my dreams for years. I needed to visit the country that has always felt a part of me. A country that my mother was born in... A country that holds a piece of my heart.

Earlier this year I took a trip to Myanmar. It was a home coming of sorts. A trip that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Myanmar is incredibly untouched - there is a sense in the countries capital of Yangon that it has been frozen in time... There is a real absence of Western influence that has penetrated so many South East Asian countries and even wandering the streets you get the feeling that you are exploring unchartered territory. It a very very special country.

I was lucky to write a feature article in the Jul/Aug issue of VIP Magazine on my journey (homecoming of sorts) I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Malaysia... IS truly Asia!

I have just recently returned from trip 1 of 4 to Malaysia... I am shooting a Hot Spot segment on E-Buzz (AXN) which is highlighting Malaysia a couple of it's tourist attractions, food and charms!

Lets just say I was inspired and in awe of the richness of the culture, people, food, art and architecture that I experienced - I am really looking forward to going back.

On this leg of the trip we covered food and the cosmopolitan side to Malaysia - visiting Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.

Kuala Lumpur was amazing... Petronas Towers were stunning... the traffic MENTAL... the mosquitoes in LOVE with me :(

A rest to admire the view 42 floors up.

The view from Petronas Tower skybridge - located between the 41st and 42nd floor of this structure its the highest 2 story bridge in the WORLD! We had full access without the tourist for an hour.

Malacca... what a stunning city - the sun was out! I have to come back here!

Apart from working as the brand ambassador of VIP Magazine Singapore I also work on their editorial team under it's fantastic editor Marc Almagro - This month I covered a story titled:

"Magnificent 7" - Based on the movers-and-shakers currently on the Singapore Arts Scene.

I wrote this for the June edition of the magazine in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival and in my research met and interviewed some seriously talented artists. This article was a joy to write... I was left inspired... inspired to visit more art galleries and scout out venues and platforms that people had created as a means to express themselves.

It's the hidden treasures that get me EVERY time!

It's true... I do like to find those hidden gems - be it clothing stores (vintage or new), book stores, coffee places... OR food stalls...

I have discovered SO far one of the BEST places to eat Char Siew Pau and Siew Mai in Singapore.

This place always has a long line of customers lining up to eat their yummmmy Char Siew and Siew Mai... all I have to say is that it's a MUST

LOCATION : Tiong Bahru Market (above the wet market) 30 Seng Poh Rd LOOK FOR STALL NO. 237!

The chili sauce is fab! And I think this cost me around $8.00 sing. Of course wash it down with a fresh coconut and it's all smiles.

Thank goodness it's FRIDAY!

What a week is all I can say.

Meetings, Greetings, Friends in town from Overseas, Auditions, Openings...Whilst also trying to fit in time to put on a load of washing and move and settle into my new pad!

My item of lust this week is the new collection of jewelry by Natalie Dissel that I caught at the stunning Gallery Reiss in Singapore this week.

Rare stones and trinkets are used to create stunning and I mean stunning pieces - think stalactite stones, shells sourced from Cambodia and gemstones set naturally in 18k gold... I was trying on lots of pieces and falling in love with nearly EVERYTHING.
